TOOL STEELS
Tool steels are mainly used in the production of finished
machined parts for machine tools. Although they have a low resistance
to corrosion, nonetheless they have an exceptional resistance to mechanical
stress. They can be divided into two major categories:

For hot working Their resistance is due to the content of Molybdenum, Tungsten and Vanadium. These elements alloyed with the Carbon form compounds and hard and stable carbides, which give the material a very high resistance to mechanical stress even at high temperatures. Characteristics:
- Impact resistance, structural toughness
- Rubbing resistanc
- Hot wear resistance caused by metal under pressure
- High degree of hardness and stiffness
- Stability of mechanical properties despite temperature variationsura

For cold working Their resistance is due to the high content of alloyed carbon which form very hard carbides in the iron matrix. The hard carbides give the material exceptional properties of hardness and resistance to extreme mechanical stress. Characteristics:
- Wear resistance
- High degree of hardness and lasting cutting edges
- Minimum deformability
- Toughness in relation to various stresses (impact, compression)
