CONSTRUCTIONAL STEELS
Constructional steels include a large number of steels
that are utilised in a wide range of applications. They are mainly used
in the manufacturing of finished machined parts when a high resistance
to stress (both thermal and mechanical) is requested. Constructional steels
have however a low resistance to oxidation and to corrosion and therefore
their usage is limited to environments with a low chemical aggressiveness.
Constructional steels can be divided into the following categories:
- Casehardening steels
- Steels for hardening and tempering
- Steels with high creep limit at high temperature
- Spring and carriage-spring steels
- Steels for low-temperature uses
- Nitriding steels
- Ball bearing steels
- Special-purposes steels
