Valbruna Stainless Steel since 1925

Founded in 1925 by Ernesto Gresele the stainless steel plant began special steel production in 1939, constantly renewing its systems and technology in keeping with the philosophy that quality must prevail over quantity in the finished product.

 Historical milestones
 




1925 Ernesto Gresele founds AVEG (Acciaierie Valbruna Ernesto Gresele), a small company specialized in forgings just outside the city center.


1939 AVEG specializes its production in the long stainless steel products sector.


1942-1945 The company is completely destroyed by American bombardment.


1946-1950 The company is rebuilt and enlarged.


1972 The entire company is moved to the new office in the industrial zone of Vicenza.


1976 Commissioning of a new 4 strand continuous caster, the first in Italy for stainless steel. Start up of a new 1000 tonnes Schloemann automated forging press.


1983 Production capacity is increased with the installation of a new 50 ton AOD converter. In the same year: - Continuous heat treatment line for coils-bars - Tunnel pickling line for coils - Tunnel pickling line for bars


1987 Start up of Pomini continuous (bars/coils) hot rolling mill in combination with a new continuos coils heat treatmet furnace.


1992 Doubled the pickling capacity for coils and for bars.


1994 Melt shop upgrading


1995 Acquisition of Acciaierie di Bolzano


1996 Bolzano melt shop re-engineering: third continuous casting strand and a new 45 tonnes AOD converter. A salt bath pickling plant commissioning at Vicenza works.


1997 Electroslag remelting ESR plant start up: first fully automated plant in the world operating under protective (Nitrogen or Argon) atmosphere.  The plant is capable of remelting 520? mm, 315 ? mm ingot and 150 mm, 220 mm billet. Start up of a 3+3 tonnes twin type induction furnaces.


1998 Continuous heat treatment furnace specialized for bars.


2000 Doubled the cold drawn wire heat treatment capacity by installing a new line. In the same year: - Commissining of a new coils pickling line in Bolzano
2001 A new Stelmor sphire forming system installed in the Pomini hotrolling mill


2002 New continuous furnace for treatment of coils in Bolzano. In the same year: - ESR plant upgrading
